Mercury Dime Necklace
Made from a genuine Liberty Dime, which is more commonly known as a mercury dime due to the winged helmet she's wearing. This dime is 90% silver, 10% copper. Each dime is lightly domed with a soldered bail. Comes on a lightweight but sturdy sterling silver chain with 2" adjustable length. Wear a piece of history.
These dimes were made from 1916 to 1945. No dimes were made 1932-1933 because of the Great Depression.
You can request a year during that time period and we'll send that year if we have it, otherwise you'll get the closest year we have. Or email to ask before purchase. Some years are common and some are rare depending on how many dimes were minted in that year.
-----
There's an urban legend that claims it's illegal to deface money by making jewelry of it. That's untrue. It's only illegal to deface money in such a way to use it for fraudulent purposes. Such as bleaching a $1 bill, to use the blank paper to reprint $100 bills. Or in the old days, scraping some silver off each coin you got, so you could sell off the silver and still use the coin.
We like these old dimes. Few people get to see them anymore. Most young people have never seen one.
The majority of these dimes just get melted down for the silver. The ones I make into pendants will live on for generations, and people will see them.
