Thulite is a vibrant pink variety of the mineral Zoisite, colored by manganese, used as a decorative stone and in jewelry for its rosy hues and mottled patterns, often with white calcite. Discovered in Norway, it's named after the mythical Thule, the mythical, farthest northern land first mentioned by the Ancient Greeks around 330 BC. They described Thule as a "land of fire and ice" with a midnight sun and congealed sea. It represented the edge of the known world, a mysterious paradise of endless daylight and unique natural phenomena like the aurora borealis, and the place where the sun goes to rest.
Thulite is the national stone of Norway.
